13.06.2016 Yithion (Githion), Peloponnèse

Le vent s’est calmé cette nuit mais de grosses rafales ont recommencé à 6 h du matin. Jens se lève tôt et regarde plusieurs météos. Le vent va baisser, le problème, ce sont les vagues, mais cela doit aller, en moyenne elles seront hautes d’un mètre. Il m’annonce donc qu’on va partir, si possible avant 9 h. Je ne suis pas très enthousiaste, le vent est force 6 dans le port. Je prends deux pilules, on ne sait jamais. Le vent nous pousse contre le quai, donc Jens détache toutes les cordes sauf une, je mets en marche arrière, il pousse Maja et saute au dernier moment sur le bateau. Heureusement qu’il est leste. Et, bonne surprise, il y a en fait moins de vent quand on sort du port.On longe l’ile de Kythera jusqu’au nord et on est protégé par elle. Mais même après, le vent est force 4 et peu de vagues. Nous voulions aller à Kalamata, mais on aurait le vent, qui est ouest, dans le nez. Nous allons donc vers Githio, vers le nord. Bonne traversée, mais il fait gris toute la journée. Le vent augment à forece 5 , mais Maja va bien, seulement à la voile. Elle gite et bouge un peu mais je peux travailler en bas en me calant avec la jambe pour ne pas glisser, surement grâce à mes pilules.Nous arrivons à Githio (ou Yithion)à 17 h 15. Le quai est en travaux et est beaucoup plus long que sur la carte, il nous faut le contourner. Dans le port, plusieurs yachts et il reste juste une petite place, perpendiculaire au quai. Jens me dit de jeter l’ancre et nous avançons doucement vers le quai mais on est à 52 m du quai et la corde de l’ancre ne fait que 50 m ! Maja s’arrète à 2 m du quai et refuse d’avancer plus loin. Deux personnes, sur le quai, sont prêtes à prendre nos cordes, on leur lance (en s’y reprenant à plusieurs fois) et les pauvres, elles tirent de toute leur force, Maja s’approche un peu et Jens, toujours acrobate saute à terre, à l’admiration de tous. Il amarre Maja mais elle est toujours un peu loin du quai et je ne pourrai pas aller à terre. Que faire ? Remonter l’ancre et recommencer ? On n’en a pas envie. Alors on raboute la corde de l’ancre avec une autre corde, et voilà, en espérant que cela va tenir. Les gardes-côtes viennent demander les papiers, tout est en ordre. Nous remercions les voisins, sympa. Nos voisins les plus proches sont français et nous invitent à boire l’apéritif sur leur bateau « Zig-Zag ». Didier et Dany sont de Pau et ont beaucoup navigué, ils ont même traversé l’Atlantique il y a quelques années. Et ils m’apprennent que l’ile de Kythera où nous étions hier c’est l’ile de Cithère en français. Puis nous allons partagé, Jens et moi, une soupe de poisson au restaurant le plus proche. La ville, Yithion sur le guide nautique mais Githion sur la carte routière, parait attrayante, protégée par une ile, animée et bien grecque, peu de touristes étrangers.

The wind calmed down last night but strong gusts started again at 6 am. Jens gets up early and looks at several weather forecast. The wind will drop, the problem is the waves, but it seems OK, they will be, on average, about one meter. So he tells me that we’ll go, if possible before 9 am. I'm not very enthusiastic, the wind is still force 6 in the harbor. I take two pills against sea-sickness, one never knows. The wind pushes us against the dock, so Jens unties all the ropes but one, I put in reverse, he pushes Maja and jumps at the last moment on the boat. Fortunately he is agile. And, pleasant surprise, it’s actually less windy when we leave the harbor. We follow the island of Kythera to its north point and we are protected by it. But even after, in the open sea, the wind is force 4 and small waves. We wanted to go to Kalamata, but we would have the wind in the nose. So we're going to Githion, to the north. Good journey, but it's gray all day. The windbecomes stronger, force 5, but Maja is progressing well, only under sail. She is heeling and is moving a little but I can work down wedging me with the leg not to fall, probably thanks to my pilules. Wecome to Githio (or Yithion) at 5:15 pm. The pier is under construction and is much longer than on the map, so we have to work around it. In the port, many yachts and there is just a small place, perpendicular to the dock. Jens tells me to drop anchor and we slowly move into the dock but we are at 52 m from the dock and the anchor rope is only 50 m! Maja stops at 2 m from the quay and refuses to advance further. Two people on the dock are ready to take our ropes, we throw them (and we have to try several times, it’s far) and the poor, they have to pull very strongly, Maja comes a little nearer and Jens, always acrobat, jumps ashore, to the admiration of all. He ties Maja but she is still a bit away from the dock and I cannot go ashore. What to do ? Do we have to take up the anchor and start again? We don’t feel like it. So Jens ties another rope to the end of the anchor rope, and now, we hope that it will hold. The Coast Guard come to ask the papers, everything is in order. We thank the neighbors, they are friendly. Our nearest neighbors are French and invite us to drink an aperitif on their boat "Zig-Zag". Dany and Didier are from Pau and have sailed a lot, they even crossed the Atlantic some years ago. And they teach me that the island of Kythera where we were yesterday is the island of Cythère in French. Then we share, Jens and me, a fish soup at the nearest restaurant. The city, Yithion in the nautical guide but Githion on the roadmap, seems attractive, protected by an island, lively and really Greek, few foreign tourists.
